MARKET BARROW DIVISION

Arrival Time – Friday, April 8 th, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Weigh-in Time – Friday, April 8 th, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Judging Date – Monday, April 11 th , 11:00 a.m.

1. This division is subject to the General Rules and these Division Rules.

2. All Market Barrows to be entered and eligible to show must be the property of the exhibitor, on feed and under the daily care of the exhibitor by January 4, 2011. Each exhibitor can tag and register two (2) animals, but may only show one. Exhibitor must present a LEGIBLE color photograph of himself and the Barrow at the time of registration, which will be held on January 4, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. No late pictures will be accepted. Exhibitors are responsible for having their barrows ear notched prior to tag-in. Ear notch and tag-in cards will be sent to FFA and 4-H groups before the tag-in and ear notches should be marked and cards filled out before you get to the Fairgrounds. Ear notches will be checked by a committee member. DNA will be collected for positive identification. Exhibitors should be present. A parent or guardian MUST be present in order to sign hair sample envelope. If an exhibitor requires a General Exception Form (refer to Page ), it will be due on the date/time of tag in of animal exhibitor is showing. Each application will be reviewed for compliance.

3. All Barrows must have official tags on at the time of weigh-in at the Fair. If you should lose one tag, contact the Fair Office at (936) 760-3631. A fee of $300.00 will be assessed should a barrow loose both ear tags and it is determined that DNA testing is required for proper identification.

4. Determination of Barrow’s classification is to be based upon predominant breed characteristics which indicate that the subject animal has the required blood relating to the class to which it is entered. Final classification will be conducted by a classifier or classification committee at time of weigh-in.

5. Any barrow showing live testicular tissue will be sifted.

6. Barrows will be divided into weight classes after check-in. Barrows shall not weigh less than 230 pounds and not more than 280 pounds. Barrows will be weighed one time only and that weight will be the official weight.

7. Any Breed may, at the discretion of the Division Chairman, be divided into appropriate subdivisions according to weights at the show.

8. The following is a list of Barrow Breeds and the order in which they will be judged:

Breed 1 – Duroc
Breed 2 – Other Purebreds
Breed 3 - Hampshire
Breed 4 - Crossbred

9. Following completion of breed placing, the judge will place the sale order of the Barrows.

10. The Champion and Reserve Champion Barrow of each breed classification shall return to the judging arena for selection of the Grand and Reserve Champion of the Show.

11. No bedding hay.

12. Unethical fitting is prohibited including, but not limited to the following:

a) No change of the natural color pattern of the animal by painting or dyeing will be allowed.
b) Any grooming material that allows color to come off from any animal will not be allowed at the show.
c) The addition of any dust, dry soap, hair or hair like substances.
d) The cutting, tearing or gluing of the hide or underneath the hide or removal of tissue in an attempt to alter the shape of the animal.
e) The injection of any natural or synthetic air or gas, solid or liquid under the hide to alter the normal conformation.
f) No oil, paint, powder or other dressing will be permitted on swine. (ONLY WATER WILL BE ALLOWED).

13. The use of drugs not approved for swine used for human consumption will not be allowed.

14. HOGS WILL BE RELEASED THE MORNING FOLLOWING THE SHOW. ALL HOGS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 12:00 NOON. ALL SALE ANIMALS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE AUCTION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PREMIUM MONIES BEING FORFEITED. RELEASE FORMS WILL BE COMPLETED AND GIVEN TO THE EXHIBITOR, PARENT, AG TEACHER OR 4-H LEADER AT THE TIME OF WEIGH-IN OR WHEN THE EXHIBITOR IS GIVEN THEIR EXHIBITOR NUMBER.

ENTRIES ARE DUE IN THE FAIR OFFICE – FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2011 BY 5:00 P.M. WITH A $20.00 ENTRY FEE.

NOTE: After Entry Deadline date it will be at the discretion of the Division Chairman and the Livestock Rules Committee whether or not to sift barrows.

JR. AND SR. SHOWMANSHIP WILL BE AFTER THE SHOW AND IS OPEN TO ALL EXHIBITORS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE. YOU PAY $5.00 (CASH) AT THE ENTRY GATE AND THE WINNER WILL BE AWARDED ALL PROCEEDS AT THE EXIT GATE.
